Years 3 & 4 had an enjoyable World War II Day to support their topic work in school. The children were evacuees for the day dressed accordingly and bringing an appropriate lunch: plenty of cheese sandwiches but no chocolate! In one of the activities, the children were issued with ID cards and given a ration book and money which they used to plan a meal and buy ingredients. They also listened to, and decoded, secret codes over the radio and entered a replica air-raid shelter to experience what it would have been like during a raid. The singing of popular wartime songs helped to keep up their spirits! Many thanks to the Beaumanor staff who helped to make it such a great day!
Staff and children wore something yellow to brighten World Mental Health Day with wellbeing activities helping to promote positive mental health in our school. Along with thousands of others across the UK, we raised money to support the work of The Royal British Legion as well as making poppy wreaths which were displayed outside school. At 11am on November 11th the whole school fell silent for one minute so we could pay our respects. Odd Sock Day marked the start of Anti-Bullying Week with everyone able to demonstrate what makes them unique and special. Meanwhile, our School Council, came up with fund-raising ideas for Children in Need including dressing up in spots and stripes. Many thanks to everyone for their generous donations.
As we head towards Christmas, the children and staff alike are getting more and more excited. There are plans for a Christmas film night accompanied by popcorn and sweets as well as a Christmas Fair for the children. Of course our annual Christmas Art Day returns, full of crafts, sparkle and glitter, plus Christmas Jumper Day where staff and children alike show off their flashing festive knits. This year, for the whole school pantomime visit, we are returning to Loughborough Town Hall to see Snow White (and her seven faithful friends).
The children will be entertaining parents and other family members: Key Stage 1 are working hard on the Nativity ‘Beep Beep Bethlehem’ while Key Stage 2 will be singing songs at the end of the school day. Lots to look forward to in the coming weeks!
It only remains for us to wish everyone connected with The Pastures a very merry Christmas, and a happy New Year. We look forward to welcoming the children back into school on Tuesday 7th January 2025!
