This month at Red Hill Field, we have been very busy with our learning and with our extra-curricular activities. We have several fabulous after-school clubs running, such as football and netball and our ever-popular film club. We aim to offer a range of clubs every half term so there is always something new for the children to try.
Over the last few weeks, we have been taking part in a virtual basketball challenge with other Leicestershire schools. It has been a wonderful way to have fun and keep fit and we are looking forward to finding out the results very soon!
We also took part in a different competition just before Christmas run by Leicestershire County Council as part of their Choose How You Move Campaign. The brief was to design a banner encouraging people to leave their car at home and walk to school. We were delighted to hear that Piper in year 6 was chosen as a winner and her design was made up into a full-sized banner which is now proudly hanging outside school!
The year 2/3 department were pleased to welcome Fizz Pop Science into school recently. They carried out some fascinating experiments with the children as part of their study of ‘light’. The opportunity to investigate the topic with an expert scientist in the classroom lit up the learning!
Just before half term we also celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week. Activities took place around school, with many of these being led by our well-being ambassadors. The week culminated in a ‘Dress to Express’ day in exchange for donations, and thanks to the kindness of our parents we were able to give a generous contribution to the Place2Be Charity that supports Children’s Mental Health.
We are now looking forward to March, which promises to bring us lots more excitement, with World Book Day, Comic Relief and the much-anticipated Year 2 ‘Teddies on Tour’ residential trip!
