We’ve had a busy few weeks here at Red Hill Field as we approach the half way point of the academic year. We have been delighted to welcome parents back in to school to share in their children’s success at our weekly celebration assemblies. Parents of children in EYFS and Year 1 were also invited to attend phonics workshop sessions recently to find out all about how phonics are taught in school.
Across the school year 4/5 have been learning all about Egyptians, culminating in a fabulous hands-on day practising hieroglyphics, Egyptian games and numbers. Our younger children enjoyed Chinese food and trying on the dragon costume whilst learning about Chinese New year!
There has been plenty of sporting activity to enjoy across the school. Our year 5/6 children have recently taken part in football and basketball matches and year 4 had a great time at a dodgeball festival. They have all showed amazing team spirit and resilience at all events.
Last month our school council and ambassadors helped to organise a fantastic bookfair for everyone in school. Thanks to the generous donations from our parents, our children were able to purchase new books from a huge selection and we raised nearly £500 across the school.
The school council also had the pleasure of meeting Alberto Costa, our local MP, when he came into school for a visit last month. He heard all about the work they have been doing around school and how their views are being heard and discussed in regular meetings.
In the next few weeks we are looking forward to longer days and hopefully warmer temperatures. Our year 2 children are very excited about their upcoming residential trip to Beaumanor Hall and at the end of the month our year 4 children will be heading to Derbyshire for a two night stay!
