In the aftermath of the terrible earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, the Rotary Club of Blaby reacted immediately to the humanitarian needs of the people by donating £800 towards buying a ‘Shelterbox’.
‘Shelterbox’ is a non-profit organisation based in Cornwall. They provide emergency shelter and humanitarian aid as well as essential items and technical support to people affected by disasters worldwide. To find out more go to www.shelterbox.org
At a recent meeting we welcomed Avalon & Jonathan Summerfield from Leicester MusicFest, which is a music educational charity serving the diverse community in Leicester. The Rotary Club has been a keen supporter of Leicester MusicFest as we recognise the opportunities this charity provides for young people to have access to inspiring music making and education.
As part of their programs the organisers look for donations of musical instruments, which are no longer in use to give other young people access to music of their choice. One of our members, Paul Cave, donated a flute belonging to his father who had recently passed, in the comforting knowledge that the instrument will be used again.
