A sunny September Saturday was a much better day weather wise than the Coronation Bank holiday Monday when the first ‘Big Help Out’ took place back in May. Once again, willing groups of volunteers assembled on the recreation ground armed with gardening equipment, paintbrushes and saws, with another cleaning party inside All Saints Church. The fine weather enabled all the pruning, hedge trimming and general tidying to be completed in much better conditions than before, with the cleaning and painting gang able to wield their brushes without becoming damp in the process! Inside All Saints Church cobwebs were cleared, pews swept and carpets vacuumed, with feather dusters being brandished more delicately along the fragile stonework behind the altar. The Parish Council and Parochial Church Council would like to thank everyone involved for their participation in this village community project.
The ‘little gardens’ alongside the south wall of the church were cleared and spruced up by the volunteers who have taken on the job of tending these spaces and another group tacked the benches around the churchyard, although one helper (who will remain nameless) did manage to get almost as much paint on himself as on the benches! On the recreation ground, hedges were pruned and some play equipment spruced up, one more agile volunteer even climbing on top of the shelter to complete the ‘all over’ paint job!
A much needed coffee break inside the church with refreshments provided by the Parish Council gave everyone the chance to have a sit down and chat before going back to their projects for the remainder of the morning
It was great to look round at the end of a busy morning and see the results of all the hard work, both inside and out.
