Thurlaston Carnival

So often in the past carnival day at Thurlaston has been beset by rain but this year it was just the opposite. I think most of those attending will have been relieved to see enough cloud cover to keep the temperature below 30 degrees.

We were treated to the usual fare of an Opening Parade, Fancy Dress competition and a performance of Country Dancing by the pupils of Thurlaston Primary School. Unfortunately, the Dog Show by Leicester Animal Aid was cancelled due to the heat, but a BMX display and a performance by the Arabesque Dancing Troop entertained those watching.

In the Marquee, The Thurlaston Choir Group delighted those watching their first public performance, followed by other music entertainment. This continued long into the evening as Queen Alive Tribute Band played two sets, supported by Josh Darby.

As usual, the village owes a considerable dept of thanks to the hard-working members of the Carnival Committee as well as those who set up stalls and games around the recreation ground. All of the money raised is used to support local community groups.
