As things go Enderby residents should be happy with the start of this year. The Wimpey Park has been saved! Saved from what, you might ask. It has been saved from a possible development of affordable houses being built on it!
Perhaps not all of you may know that in the autumn last year there were tests done on the park. After some enquiries were made, it was found to be tests for the viability of building on the park.
So a group of residents made it their business to stop this. A Facebook group was set up and was quickly joined by hundreds of people, interested with the same objective. Wimpey Park is an oasis of green where families meet, dogs are walked and footballers play.
We had to save it!
The support led to a determination of the group to let Enderby Parish Council and Blaby District Council know that there would be a fight on to save the park. Behind the scenes we beavered away to take action. When the tests came back it stated that the park was NOT viable to have affordable housing on it. Hoorah! Plus we like to think that maybe, just maybe, we wouldn’t have made it easy for them!
BUT, that is not the end of it. It does not guarantee that this may come up again with another builder MAKING it viable. So our campaign has not stopped – just changed.
We have now decided to PROTECT the park from any future building plans. Consequently, we have asked Enderby Parish Council, as the representatives of the residents of Enderby, to in turn ask Blaby District Council to release the ownership of the park to Enderby – ad infinitum. That was in December ’21 and still no reply. So last week we asked EPC, again, to chase for an answer. This needs sorting.
We would like everyone to support us by placing a poster in your windows to show BDC that we want the Wimpey Park for the community with the protection of it being ours – forever.
We thank The Journal for giving this article space as we are aware that a lot of residents do not know of this claim on our park. Laptops and Facebook are great to spread the word but if you have neither of these, other than knocking on doors, we are relying on our community paper to pass the news on.
To join the group as a supporter and request a poster go to – Wimpey Action Group on Facebook or email us at Wimpeyactiongroup@gmail.com. And those who need a poster – without the laptop – contact 07527515323
